cant emphasize this enough
do not spam apply. use a simple cover letter template and tweak from there
use examples of what you accomplished/ were a part of
copy paste bullet points from job posting into the resume
ask smart questions in interviews
follow up messages after every interview

Ive been laid off once.
Folks was telling me:
"its the best thing that could happen to you!"
"blessing in disguise"
"You'll be back better than ever!"
"they just paying u to look for a job"
They meant well, but it was some bullshyt. Nothing is good about losing your job. It sucks. That one layoff set me back for a while. I was only out of work for about 6 months, but that shyt felt like 2 years.
The key is to get out of the house every single day. Luckily I had my kids and there was alot to keep my mind occupied, but you just need to keep your brain stimulated and sharp. Just do something. You cant apply for jobs 18 hours a day, that shyt is demoralizing. Go work out, take a walk, see a matinee, people watch. Just stay active. Its almost like doing a bid. It will be over but do the time and dont let the time do u.

As a black man working and trying to go good for youself; you will always catch hell. At work; it sucks but you will be the work horse all the time, I know from experience. Also white people will always try to work your nerves as a black man so you can react and they can play the victim card. One thing I can say is that always keep your resume up to date and even when you have a job always look for a job. I just call it fishing; really it's just to see what bites you get.
From personal experience at my job right now I'm the work horse and I get blamed for shyt all the time but it's never my fault. I always win the arguments though. I was applying for this position in which it would have me to move to the mid west, 10 to 15k in moving expenses and 15-25k extra on top of what I made. I did all the bullshyt projects and everything and really I am the best in the lab, but the only black person in the lab. The head chemist flew out to my state to interview me and my other coworker (jew) for the position and they kept the job open for a long ass time. I told my mom that there not going to pick me up because I'm black and everyone at corporate level is white besides this one brother in HR; but he's a token. So later on I did not get the job and they hired this white kid and trained him for 3 months and give him the job with no experience.
I'm not mad just charge it to the game of working for white clowns and shyt; there not going to have a black man go and fix all the shyt they can't because that's what I do now and plus I show a lot of peopje up. Basically they hired me as a test to see if I could make it and I passed all the shyt they threw at me and more. Which I did and still do; and they finally gave up on throwing bullshyt at me.
Just keep your head up playa and do not get discourage; your just getting your feet wet with working with white supremacist and do not let them get on your nerves.
Also don't trust no one; even your own people, which is fukked up. Just trust yourself

Good luck my bro. Since working in the military I learned that: don't trust anyone. You'll have an easier and more successful time not talking to anyone as long as possible. You can make friends, but keep that shyt at a distant. Black, white, orange, everyone. It took me a while to understand that people are not shyt. I never thought in my life I would be so jaded. So next time around if you smell something might be going wrong, just route it up. Apply for everything, even if you get an interview. Stack everything up.
EDIT: And playing 'the game' doesn't make you less of a man. There are a tons of people I think a lot less of than I show at work. I might feel superior in a lot of different things, but that doesn't matter as long as there is a rank structure. You have to respect that. Unless like dude below said, you want to start your own business. If you do I hope you succeed because I always like to see people make their own way.

The office closed at like 4 and is closed friday
Lost my job last thursday. I have enough cash to sit on my ass for almost 3 months
No idea if I can get paid that much again.
Bounce back, breh, all that "It happened for a reason" mess is BULLshyt. Having my family float my bills cause I was pulling in 180-250
every two weeks was almost enough to commit that. That was WITH a job. Putting together a graphics and photography portfolio to send out tomorrow to
everybody, so I know how you feel. Hit that lick NOW.

Update:
I had submitted some apps for full time jobs last week and did 1 phone interview and have an in-person interview tmrw with the same company
Also have a skype interview at 2pm with a different company tmrw
Hopefully something works out. Sitting on my ass from 9am-5pm then going to the gym is making me feel unproductive

I feel you. I did 3 interviews in the last 4 days somehow. I still have too much time on my handsUpdate:
