Just got my Matrilineal results back and it came back as Tuareg, with a Haplogroup H1d with a 99.4 confidence rate. Should get my Patrilineal later this week.

Did you take African Ancestry to get the matrilineal ancestry?

I took it and I got Mende for maternal lineage and Bissa for paternal lineage.

I took both sides. Maternal is what came in today. I was surprised by Tuareg to be honest. I would have assumed something more like Mandinka and in the extreme case Fula, as I know my actual tribe was not tested. It will be interesting to see what my Paternal results are.

That Benin is Yoruba. The Kingdom of Benin was a Yoruba Kingdom. Looking at your DNA results I would suspect that you are from the Caribbean or Central/South America.

Edit:

Another thing that a lot of people taking Ancestry may not know is that Togo/Benin is not a likely result for most African Americans. That is is just a proxy most likely for Burkina Faso, which was known as Upper Volta. There were a lot of wars waged in that area and a lot of slaves taken to Salaga in in Central/Northern Ghana.

I mean the fact my mothers side practiced Islam, and we are tall (my grand father was like 6'6-6'7, I'm 6'3), I know that's a direct correlation with many of the people of the Sahel. I don't take the Tuareg to be too literal though, I more so take it as I had an ancestor who may have been around them (maybe even a slave of them since many Nilotic Blacks were part of the Slave Caste of Tuareg).

Regardless the folklore of my tribe is that we came from the East to the West so of course during that migration we became who we are today.

Imma try this shyt

My descent is Liberian but born in the states. I heard that the tribe (Vai) where my last name descended from were originally from Sudan.

Also mix other tribes (Grebo & Khran) based on my parents, so Ill be suprised when the results follow up.

All tribes came from the East and moved to the West. If you take the National Geographic National Genome and 23andme tests they will show you the path of the haplogroups. They all came from the East.

Second of all that lineage test is literal. It literally traced the direct maternal line of your mother. It only traced her, your grandmother, your great-grandmother etc. It did not trace your mother's father or anyone else. It just traced those women little sliver of DNA back to it's source.

Your mother's folks were probably working the salt mines north of Mali and then they rebelled. It wasn't supposed to end like this man. Your dad had better be a Mande nikka or we got some problems. :mjcry:

When they say the Sudan they mean Sahel (even though they say we were in East Africa prior to that). But we (Mande people) all came to West Africa from the North (and the East prior to that).

My mom said Vai people love doing witchcraft

Yeah our folklore has us being in the East (even to the extent of having some history in the Levant). And my Parents are both of the same tribe (paternally). My Mom's Mother is Mano but that tribe shares history with my tribe (migrations, etc).

I thought Benin was the name that colonizers gave Dahomey tho and they were at war with the Yorubas of Oyo. You right the I just looked up the demographics and the second largest minority group is Yorubas after Fon
