Everybody already knows this language requirement bullshyt is a racist caliphate that mostly affects blacks:

http://www.indeed.com/forum/loc/New-York-New-York/Billingual-Discrimination-Spanish/t402929

"What Dee stated in her comment is unfortunately true and I have seen it at higher levels than entry level positions. The tripling of the hispanic population within the coming years will leave the African-American community with a harder road in being able to obtain employment - even with our degrees. Yes indeed, the hispanics I see at work and thru-out the City only hire other hispanics. Yet, the management at this point is pushing for bilingual candidates and this will fill the organizations as such. It has nothing to do with skillset."

"I have had instances where, because I am an olive skinned Italian American, they assume I speak spanish, but when they find out I am not, they have no interest in hiring me because they judge me as an outsider. This my friends is DISCRIMINATION."

"I understand what you are saying but most people who are "Hispanics" themselves don't know this. But its really not the point of what Dee was trying to say which is very true and with the rise in the latino populations will only make it worst. And this collation the the speak about between the two groups Hispanics and African American(non-hispanic) is false. And the black population will loose the most as usual."

I don't live in the US, but yes of course it would be good if they learned more english. BUT if you wanna complain about jobs requiring spanish don't attack hispanic immigrants, people just realized that their is money to be gained by doing business with them.

So why are u in this thread ?

I don't know if some of you are that ignorant or being purposely dense. @greenhousegases is right. While there are positions that indeed require the knowledge of a second language, in many cases it is used as a means to keep blacks out of certain jobs. I've seen teaching jobs (California, specifically) that are non ESL but REQUIRED you to speak Spanish. That is ridiculous.

I have met people who have lived in America for DECADES and still can't speak a lick of English :why: Lets be real. They don't bother to learn because they don't have to. We cater to them.

Lets Keep It Real Though, Those People Have Just As Hard A Time If Not HARDER Finding A Job

The Thing Is Foreigners (Dont Matter If They're From Mexico, Cuba, Or Haiti) For The Most Part Work Harder Than Most Americans Do , If Anyone Is Catered To In This Country It's Us

I learned basic level of Spanish. Most of their jobs want employees to learn a professional level aka super fluent. Its the level of knowledge in Spanish that disturbs me. Most people can't learn that high level of Spanish.

But they are foreigners, it SHOULD be harder for them not "just as hard"

When you migrate to another country you should have to learn the language and customs. If any of us moved to a nother country we would have to work extra extra hard because we dont know shyt, the country shouldnt force its citizens to change up to accommodate foreigners that refuse to

No offense, but I don't think you have an important job if you need Spanish.

Unless you're doing actual international business abroad in Europe or South America.

But if it's to talk to basic, low-income Hispanics in America, then your job just isn't that important.

1. Most people who have jobs don't work in "important" jobs. Most everyone can't work in important jobs and just because you don't work an "important" job, doesn't mean your work isn't important.

2. Blacks largely work low end jobs. That's our bread and butter because we're mostly poor. If we lose our bread and butter we are at far higher risk for violent crime, mental problems, etc.

3. You build up cultural and economic capital through working low end jobs until you can "move up".

4. Employment discrimination against blacks is wrong and the Supreme Court needs to outlaw language requirements. Those businesses who require language requirements and can't prove a clear need should be fined.

5. The ACLU needs to take this matter to court.

If you are working for a school they want you to know Spanish so you can communicate with parents that don't speak English, not just the students.

I figured Spanish was damn near a requirement for every job in Miami. It's usually listed on the job openings I see.

This isn't how Canada or any other motherfukking country does it. In Canada they just hire translators or get the kids to translate. I should know because I lived in Detroit near the Canadian border and rarely fukking met a Canadian who spoke anything but English.

My dad sometimes went across the border for work and I saw some (rare) immigrants from places like Pakistan. Do you think the Canadian government now requires teachers to speak Urdu or Hindi? No.

How the fukk are you going to expect African Americans--a group that speaks broken English--to learn fluent Spanish?
