THE fukk IS THIS MANYeah that's the game. I know the guy that wrote Attack on Titan said it was his inspiration but I have never seen gore like that in Attack on Titan.
The scene this happens in was amazing. If you plan to play the games I'll edit the image so you can't tell who it is but it was a gut punch. It ain't a pretty picture.

Still clearly remember this. One minute old boy was talking to his teacher and she was cheering him up cause he fucked up but it was recoverable and the next moment the game was letting you know anybody can get it.
This game then proceeded to march through and kill off damn near everybody. Some of them in very gruesome ways but none of them quite like that first kill. The final suicide mission was just that.
I didn't know the anime redid the scene.
The anime fukked it up they should have had the brain bits and the eyeball dangling from the socket and the lower row of teeth still there like the game did.

So just to get this straight. The “shocking” moment was that they let a main character die a gruesome death?

It's the tonal whiplash of that female teacher getting a head chomp in a game that up until that point had nothing like that happen. The game then goes from a typical anime style harem romcom to just killing characters off left and right.
It can't really be explained well to someone that didn't experience it raw with no preparation.
