It wasn't even low-key, really. But when Mackey and Vendrell are such well established piece of shyt anti-heroes, to where their casual racism is only one aspect of their assholity, you can get away with it. The idea of "rooting" for them was always supposed to be problematic. Just like rooting for Tony Soprano, Walter White, etc. That's what an anti-hero is.
