Being a good, educated person does not, and should not equate to defending racists and their actions.

Unfortunately I think that's what happens to people who have no diversity in the people around them. It also could be they feel weak so they think there is power in doing stuff like putting people on an imaginary c00n train that while funny has no power at all.
