Ka seems like a good dude. And I like this album, maybe I dig Roc's style a bit more, but Ka can rhyme without question. He is allergic to drums which is unfortunate, cause Knighthood is my favorite track on here. Dope release tho, I hope that Metal Clergies album materializes

What's the problem with not having drums?

I made a big post supporting it in a thread on here ("Anti-Drums Movement", I think).

I'm all for the stripped down approach, and the emphasis on lyricism without having to rely on common drum patterns and sounds, but at the same time, dude made like 3 albums this way. His sound is dope, still Id like to hear some more percussion every now and then

comes off as more 'spoken word' than 'hip hop' (this is what i've been told)

i understand people wanting to have drums, gives you the head nod factor. :manny: but regardless, the guy and his approach to putting together an album is ill to me

Have you heard Iron Works? Drums all over that album. How else should he make his music? You said "dude made like 3 albums this way" so why are you expecting something different on the third trip? If the song doesn't call for drums, no one is getting drums.

That sounds silly to me. I would rather they just say that it's a matter of preference.

To your second point, is it that hard to follow without drums? Not asking you, just in general. You will never have your way all the time. Cats know what they are getting into yet still crying about it. His production is dope without his words. He can do whatever he wants as long as they jam.

Never understood the "he whispers" complaint. I suppose it can be an issue if the beat/mixing is too loud (like on the second track he has on Roc's second album) but in general it's dope. The toughest nikkas I ever met were quiet dudes.

I enjoy the lack of drums. Sometimes he has them, sometimes not. Same with Roc Marciano. It's a nice style, and I've enjoyed it for years (Madlib's stuff comes to mind).

I have already stated that I welcome all opinions in this thread as well as everywhere else. I am asking cats who are making note of the (lack of) drums so that I can learn. I am not attacking anyone here.

As per your question about "Who's crying?", look through this thread and any others discussing his music. You see the repeat comments from the same people. Those are the ones who are crying. I made a post directly addressing this criticism and cats have no insight to offer. It's just "Where are the drums?, I need some drums., I wish he'd throw some drums on his songs" ad nauseum. It's a bit much after so many albums. You (they) know what they are getting into. The point is becoming moot as far as discussion is concerned.

This is not directed at anyone in particular. Ka's music may not have drums. You have been fairly warned. If you want some music from Ka with drums, please listen (cop) Iron Works. Drums galore.
