Nationalities pertain to nations and since Africa is a continent and not a nation it doesn’t make sense to say one is African and American. The reason ADOS use it is because our ancestry does not trace back to a single country in Africa hence the term being African-American. Our nationality is American but our culture, physical features, and language are different than White Americans and that’s what the African refers to.
