With two big-name players about to hit free agency, Kansas City made a couple of moves to keep both of them.

The Chiefs have placed the franchise tag on offensive tackle Branden Albert and reached an agreement on a new deal for wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, who played on the one-year franchise tender last year. A league source tells PFT that it’s a five-year deal for Bowe.

Kansas City will also be keeping punter Dustin Colquitt, who was also set to become a free agent but agreed to a new deal today as well, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Keeping Albert in the fold is a big move for the Chiefs’ offensive line, although it doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t use the first overall pick in the draft on an offensive tackle. Both Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M and Eric Fisher of Central Michigan have been named as potential first picks for Kansas City.
:obama: Nice job they kept Bowe. Let's see if Fat Andy can get him back to 1,000 yards+.

good moves, and even tho they paid alot for Smith it does save them from reaching for a QB in this draft. take Joekel and you got 2 talented OT's to build around

low key this squad could do a little damage with some breaks and a good draft :leon:

good moves

as long as the chiefs win enough games to turn the niners' conditional 2014 pick into a 2nd rounder it's cool with me :win:

The Numbers..

Bowe moves into top three with $56 million deal..

We’ve got the full breakdown of the five-year deal signed by receiver Dwayne Bowe.

Per a source with knowledge of the contract, here it is.

1. $15 million signing bonus.

2. $750,000 fully-guaranteed base salary in 2013.

3. $250,000 workout bonus in each year of the contract.

4. $8.75 million base salary in 2014, $4.25 million of which is fully guaranteed now and $4.5 million of which is guaranteed for injury only now. The $4.5 million becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2014 league year.

5. $10.75 million base salary in 2015. $1.5 million is guaranteed for injury now, and it becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2014 (not 2015) league year.

6. $9.75 million base salary in 2016.

7. $9.75 million base salary in 2017.

It adds up to $36 million over the first three years, and $56 million over five. Of the amount, $26 million is guaranteed. $20 million is fully guaranteed now. The other $6 million becomes fully guaranteed next year.

It puts Bowe behind only Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson. (Which means that the new regime views Bowe as a top five, not top 10, receiver.)

Good moves, they`ll be much improved in 2013.

Wild-card team

You being sarcastic?

They not going be better than any of the team that made the playoffs in the AFC this year.

7-9 will be a good stepping stone for them.

I always think thats the next step for bad team. Getting away from the double digit loss seasons. Then go for +.500 season the next season.

No sarcasm at all.

Better coach. Better QB. Very good running game, better offensive line.

Don't see why they couldn't make a wildcard run
