:mindblown: there should be some kind of statute of limitations on the time you can sue for a sample. how you gonna pull this bullshyt 10 years after the fukkin song was out? not like it was some hidden album track it was a #1 single for fukks sake

sounds like this BUmpin Bus Stop song has recently found a new owner of the publishing. maybe the artist died or something and the kids are money hungry

I think copyrighted music gets 72 years or something crazy like that before you don't have to give credit

Edit, even longer than I thought How Long Is Music Copyrighted? | eHow.com

yeah i know there's a 99 year limit or something but there has to be a way to stop someone digging up a tiny 2 word sample from a 10 year old song just for a cash grab because that's obviously what this is. if it was a large vocal sample like Through The Wire then yeah i can see it but to sue for "get down"? that's stupid to me

I agree it's stupid, I wonder if they'll be able to prove that it is his voice. I saw on another website that to sue the statute of limitations is 3 years after the infringement stops. So when they play it on the radio or continue to sell the album in stores, they have forever to sue.

If he did indeed used the sample then he needs to pay up (as long as the law allows it)

I don't care how 'small' the sample is......if the shyt ain't originally yours then you can't just up and use it to make your own shyt, especially when talking about vocals

Yeah, as soon as I heard that lyric "step up front," I was surprised at how often this track had been sampled.

Here's a more comprehensive list:

Lord Finesse is on it, too :lolbron:

Dope sample though, it's been picked apart for years. I thought by now we'd be out of the woods when it came to this stuff.

I think this reiterates how much better sampled music is though.

Put the shoe on the other foot. Kanye got fat off that Gold digger shyt. It really shouldn't matter how long it takes for the plaintiffs to setup up. It's within their legal right to seek compensation, and rightfully so.

Producers try to get away with using rare or small uncredited samples, but often times they get caught later on in the game. Kanye knew this could potentially come back to bite him when he didn't attempt to clear the sample.
