:rudy: @ buddy trying to name-drop donnie simpson & rachel only to prove no point whatsoever.

in the video soul days, the soul train awards was THEE award show for the black community. yet, they dealt with alot of no-shows as well. so did the source awards(the '95 joint was the only one where dam near everybody showed up).

lets see you namedrop your way out of this one. hell, i could make a thread about the soul train awards right now and i bet i'd draw blanks from the majority of the people in here complaining. the same way people in here complain about BET but look lost whenever TV-ONE or any of the other black stations are brought up.
The irony in you actually proving no point. The soul train awards were good as were the BET awards at one point. This has nothing to do with name dropping you Game ass nikka. The fact is, no one cares about the BET Awards more so now than ever. Bc cacs run it. Watching the soul train awards and bet awards used to be a family event that we took pride in talking about at work etc. The cac rapage of our culture and television has made this collectivity obsolete.

So staying on topic. NO ONE GIVES A fukk ABOUT A BET AWARD ESPECIALLY KANYE. He been there done that. They know that. And to try to argue a point about nikkas not supporting their own is fukking weak. nikkas don't do award shows we battle to prove who is the best. Well we used to. That award shyt is for the advertisers B. nikkas only care about what's hot in the street. As far as awards are concerned iggy azalea will win a Grammy before Nas or whoever for best album. Cacs gon cac. And unfortunately BET is Cac city

:camby:

fukk outta here. nikkas come from left field with the bullshyt.

c00ns still think BET has anything to do with black people? The shyt is straight poison run by cacs. Watch that boondocks episode where Huey watches that bullshyt for 48hrs. shyt none of them rappers should show up.

This ain't Donny Simpson, Video Soul, BET. (Bet you nikkas never saw Video Soul. :mjpls:)

No Rachel and Carribean Rhythms (:datazz:)

That shyt is a demonic poisoned husk of what it used to be
Seriously though

I thought people would've wisened up by now

BET is just another part of VIACOM I don't seperate it from damn VH1 so of course I don't belive in their opinion on hiphop...Especially since some of those shows they have should be on BET instead of VH1...All of the Hip hops, and the shows should be on BET...
nope... cause then black people would say "why does bet have all these shows downgrading black people"

most people don't realize it's all the same company.. so they avoid the backlash by putting it on vh1

Yeezus was the most praised album in MUSIC last year by almost every respectable publication last year

Doesn't get one nomination at the BET Awards but Magna Carter Holy Trash gets a nod I'm sure :mjlol:
what publications tho :mjpls:

most black people would choose MCHG over yeezus every....................

you know what.. fukk that.... EVERYONE chose MCHG over yeezus and the album sales prove that theory

:camby: listening to nerdy ass critics and bloggers about what good hip hop is

I used to watch all that shyt, breh. I'm just blessed to be out of that matrix :blessed:

Enjoy tho, breh. :ld: It's a decent escape for a few hours....but all them commercials. :sadcam:
i'm with you.. i used to watch all these shows

then as i got older.. i realized i'm just watching people, sitting there, watching other people

every few minutes, someone wins and award and makes a boring ass speech.. and you might get 2-3 good performances from artists you actually want to hear

now i just wait for the coli or news outlets to spoil the list of winners, and whatever big thing happened... and catch the performances on worldstar

fukk watching a 4 hour award show for 1 rap award and 2 rap performances

fukk watching the mess that is the bet awards every year

fukk watching people who i don't even like, win awards for categories they shouldn't even be in, nor win

Im gonna try to respond from the phone.
I think most Kanyes albums were pretty easy, Graduation being like some Michael Jackson shyt.
every song except the one everyone hated was easy. CD, could play as background music with all those super safe samples. Yeezus however was something special, it was not made for radio, people who watch BET or road trip music. On Site is some real hiphop shyt from the early 80s with better mastering and a lot more intense

And i don't think he did it solely to push boundaries, i think he did it to challenge himself, hiphop and his listeners in regards to showing that theres still more ways to make hiphop. Unlike pop and rock that have huge indie scenes where innovation is taking place.. In hiphop there's very few people innovating kanye, drake, asap, danny brown and kendrick are the few people i can think of.

And when i say pop noise, im talking about people like Gaga, Katy Perry, Minaj and whatever the fukk. Simple shyt for simple music listeners.

And I dont care about most hiphop fans, most hiphop fans listen to the wack shyt inhear when I listen to radio. Most hiphop fans think Macklemore is one of the best rappers in years, that Minaj is a heavyweight rapper, that BP3 is one of jays best albums.

As i said it was a polarizing album, it was not for everyone and still sold 700k with no promo. Still had the best reviews and id rather go by the exclusive group of advanced music listeners than the broad crowd, containing a fat portion of simple listeners, to form an opinion about the response. And the coli has been proven to not represent any type of population.

Maybe Yeezus was something special to you, but it appears that more excuses are made in defense of liking Yeezus. Simply put, what's so wrong with saying you like the album or saying the album is dope. What's up with all of the extra "it wasn't for everybody" or that it wasn't made for ________ (fill in the blank). It was released to the public which means it's for anyone with ears who wanted to hear it.

Who is to say that Yeezus wasn't simple?

LOL @ Yeezus having no promo. Dude had projections of himself on the side of buildings. He was performing on late night talk shows.

LOL @ advanced music listeners. What you call advanced another might say is a simple-minded listener.

no promo obviously means little to insignificant promo.

Anyone can have projections on a few buildings, I can do it right now. Show the So Icey
video on Big ben. I really don't think the probability of capturing the potential Gucci and Jeezy fans is that high. He performed his 2 hardest songs in his career at one talk show and posted one link on twitter (yes one) that's all promo he did.

Advanced music listeners are hiphop fans with an open, informed and broad taste in music. Simple are people who don't really care too much for example radio listeners, MTV/bet viewers.
Why a person who doesn't care or know too much would call a person who cares and knows a lot a simple listener is a mystery. I've even met or red about people not liking the music personally but respecting the complexity, cohesiveness, execution etc.

People defend it, because as mentioned its according to the professionals an extremely good album. And according to millions of hiphop fans it's an extremely good album. But according to a lot of hiphop fans it's not that great.. Which sparks debate, the defense goes two ways I. A real debate, cause the real music fans who don't like it usually explain why and then the ones who explain why it's a great album in their opinion. The naysayers on the coli are usually not the ones to shyt on anything constructively but in my circles, people do.

It's a polarizing album, as explained by a lot of people including Kanye. He also said Bound 2 was the commercial/simple sound that everyone could ride to. Same with 808 btw, which I personally did not like (cause I do not like autotune to much) but I appreciated the creativity.

We still arguing about yeezus? If you don't like it by now, you won't. To me it was cool. I don't really take personal stock into awards like that. Especially since the real good artist never get the love anyway.

No promo means no promo. You said "no promo" not "little to insignificant promo". Showing projections on the side of buildings and performing your songs on SNL before the album drops is hardly no promo or even insignifcant promo.

The probability of capturing potential Gucci and Jeezy fans is irrelevant.

As far as advanced music listeners, no such thing exists. What you call advanced differs from what some one else would call advanced. Same goes for simple.

A person can respect the complexity, cohesiveness, and execution of an album and still not actually like the music.

According to professionals =/= what an individual thinks. By your logic, you are a simple listener as opposed to an advanced listener because you are basing your opinion on someone else's opinion (regardless if it's a "professional" one, it's still an opinion). That's no different from someone basing their opinion of music on sales and airplay as opposed to forming their own opinion based on what they hear.

Labeling it polarizing contradicts a defense of the album. Of course there's people who don't/won't like the album for whatever reason. It's crazy to say that they are lesser fans/listeners/individuals because they don't like it.

There's no such thing as no promo unless you do a Beyonce, in all of music history 'no promo' has referred to relatively little promotion. One might not swear on it in court, why you are acting like a prosecutor is a bit unclear. Doing 1 SNL is not really a lot of promotion, the reason to why you do several shows and such is to capture the ones who could buy your album. A lot of people do SNL it's not like performing at the Grammys, American Idol etc, Janelle Monae, indie bands like Vampire Weekend and loads of people do snl. Relatively speaking the ballerinas for his last album cost more and consumed more time than all of Yeezus promo.

The probability of capturing fans is very relevant, marketing zero o zero.

And advances music listener might not exist but a broad based knowledgeable listener exists.
However I don't like the term knowledgeable when referring to music. And I'm not saying that people like you are 'not advanced' I'm talking about the people who listen to radio and keep the top 50 looking like it does. We all know people who strictly listen to music that's poppin or easy, simple music. They don't really care or know too much about why a song sounds like it does, why it's structured in a certain way, or specifically in hiphop; nothing about flows, rhyming techniques and on. It's not that they are stupid, they just don't find it interesting. And those people were to a larger extent the one who complained with silly line like 'I want the old college dropout bushu'.

And my opinions not based on anything but my experience from listening to the album.
The professionals support my opinion, recall that you were talking about "people don't like it" or something similar. I said if we can use any indication of what people we know are knowledgeable; the reviewers then people loved it. And since it sold a lot of records (perhaps not Eminem, Drake, Beyonce #) we can rest sure that a very large group of people loved it.
