Charlemagne was goading him, so what? What does that have to do with the fact that he was quiet as a church mouse in his presence yet wants to be all vocal now. Ye could've expressed his feelings in Charlemagne's presence without wilding out (which is what Charlemagne was actually goading him into doing).
