For those who have listened to the re-mastered/original...is there much of a difference?
Both hands clusty, chilling with my man Rusty
Low down, blew off the burner kinda dusty

This really is one of the more perplexing releases I've ever seen. The album itself just FEELS unfinished, not even wack, but just rushed. There really isn't even any good excuse why a compilation album shouldn't include ALL the members of the damn label, ESPECIALLY if two of those members are certified Hip Hop legends. Why sign them and keep them out of the loop? Why not release that movie that was so hyped up on iTunes like what was done with MBDTF? Why no bonus tracks? Did Def Jam not allow Kanye the time he needed to truly finish the album or was he too busy running fashion shows and going balls deep in Kim Kardashian to give it his full attention?

The world may never know..

Apparently sample clearance was an issue, but that seems like the go-to excuse for a lot of albums these days

I just read an article that Mos & Q-Tip were supposed to be on the album but there was too much infighting that it just didn't work out.

I See a lot of talk here about CS, and now the truth... : hiphopheads

I worked as a sound engineer back in Janurary. The reason the album was pushed back so far was due to disagreements behind the scenes. Q-Tip is known for being hard-headed, just look at the break up of him and Phife (that Rappaport flick highlights this). "Creative differences" between him and others is why he is no where to be found. Common and Mos didnt want to be associated with the direction the compilation was taking so they distanced themselves (Mos entirely, Common only having the few bars - but he was already locked in, doing appearances, shows, etc..)
Honestly, Im not surprised this album was pushed back as much as it was. To those wondering why the singles were leaked way before the album dropped, that was NOT the original plan. The album should have dropped sooner, but because of the fighting above, it kept getting pushed back as songs were scrapped, rearranged, or redone altogether.
The album was forced - you cant have the album called "Cruel Summer" and then release it in winter.

I'm kinda disappointed in the packaging especially when comparing it to WTT and MBDTF. Feels cheap and doesn't look as hot as I thought they were gonna make it.

These were likely false rumors, Common said himself he wanted to rap over beats he wasn't accustomed to, like The Morning, and even said he regretted not requesting a chance to be on Mercy

Mos Def was supposed to be on 4 songs, but that didn't happen

only stubborn person I could see wanting to distance themselves from this would be Q-Tip, but I doubt that seeing as how he cooperated on WTT

Exactly it doesn't make sense. Why be signed to Good Music as a veteran and have a problem doing what Kanye's BEEN doing since Graduation? The soul sample days are long dead, their not coming back. Common been down with Ye for while he knows the deal, Mos Def and Q-Tip would know as well as anyone that Kanye wasn't going to drop a compilation full of sped up samples in 2012. This story don't add up

:yeshrug: Either way it's all speculation.
No way to know for sure. It's not like common or mos will publicly trash their label.
hopefully tip will though :lolbron:
