Varna system, yeah, but that's Hinduism which originally came from the Vedic period that started it all. It's also where sanskrit originally came from as well.

i feel you with the Varna system you have Brahmana, which the intellectual class; professions like teaching, priesthood, medicine, philosophy came under this.

Kshattriya - the warrior class.

The above two were the top varnas. These two often competed for the highest rank in society, and for the status of the ruling class. There were both brahman and kshatriya kings. The wars between the Janapadas(Kshatriya dominated society) and early Indian kingdoms(Brahmana dominated society) reflect this. In the end, it was the Brahmanas who attained the reputation of being the highest class as they were the priestly class, and controlled important religious matters. For example, for someone to be deemed a king, they had to perform the 'ashmedha', and thus, only the Brahmans could authenticate a king's rule

i thin they are other but i dont know them by name

Yes. My uncle used to cheat on his first wife all the time, even had a kid with another woman while he was married and was just like :manny: when she found out. They ended up getting divorced and he was single for like 15 years and he finally got another gf and she cheated on him with his son. he just married her a few months ago. He said he doesn't want to be alone and it's hard to find a woman when you're almost 60. Sometimes...I feel bad for him. :(

@Elle Driver let me ask you this: would you say the caste system predates hinduism ?

Yes, but it was perpetuated by the British. I can't deny that it's a part of the old Vedic religion, but it became worse when the British went to India. The Dalit became treated even worse, I've seen it with my own eyes.

Yeah, and they weren't included in the Varna system at all (they're usually referred to as the fifth varna which isn't really regarded at all since there are obviously only four varna divisions).

yeah because like i was telling observe i never heard of them being reference.

I think it might have to do with the fact that their occupations were considered really low, like people in India would rather starve than do the work that the Dalits were historically known to do. The fourth varna were usually laborers and that was seen as the lowest anyway, so I can only imagine how they'd treat garbage men who used to handle (animal) waste and butchering. So you'd never really hear of them being mentioned, coupled with the fact that they were considered "ritually impure". When I was in India I was warned not to be within at least 10 feet of them, because I'd have to do an extensive cleansing ritual otherwise. They weren't even allowed in temples.

Yeah it was heart breaking to see, but I was told that with the Indian constitution they changed it so most cities weren't like that. Plus Dalits are the most accomplished out of all of the varnas ironically. Once they started with the affirmative action in India for the Dalits, they crushed buildings.

No, it's just a consolation for people who don't take action "Oh you'll get yours" etc. It's also a simple conclusion to jump to, for those who need help making more sense of the world. People seem to think their life is more significant than it really is in the grand scheme of things. They Order a cheeseburger from a restaurant, there's no cheese on it, they think it's karma for cutting someone off in traffic or some stupid shyt :russ:
