Unbeknownst to Leonard and without his consent, Nike filed an application for copyright registration of his logo and falsely represented in the application that Nike had authored the logo.

If Leonard can show he had drawings of the logo in 2011 and then Nike files that application in 2013 claiming that Nike authored it themselves than it's payday for Kawhi.

Furthermore the complaint says that Nike told Kawhi "it owns all intellectual property rights in the Leonard Logo and demanding that Leonard immediately cease and desist from what Nike claimed was the unauthorized use of the Leonard Logo."

Which is to say: their lawyers tried to bully him.

Best case for Nike at this point is they keep the logo but have to rename it and are basically forbidden from using it to sell basketball merchandise with it ever again.

Worst case is punitive charges for willfully misrepresenting and attempting to corrupt US IP law.
