obviously the clippers gave up way too much and im sure even some clippers fan will disagree but its not one of the worst trades ever from the clippers perspective because they still enjoyed their 2nd or arguably best stretch in their history after signing kawhi and you can argue the reason it isnt clearly their best is simply the kawhi injuries.

i dont know how they would have worked it under the cap but the perfect scenario would have been durant not turning down kawhi. even if they ended up doing a sign and trade with golden state they wouldnt have had to give up nearly as much and you have a year of seeing how kawhi and 2nd year sga mesh before integrating durant after his achilles injury. unfortunately durant likely wanted to be the clear no.1 wherever he went after leaving golden state.
