Kobe one of the main ones for these talking points with his pro-European, anti-AAU, and “accidental basketball” pretentious bullshyt…

USA continues to win Golds in every age range despite teams being thrown together while foreign teams take every cup to heart and have guys growing up playing together

If Europe was a country instead of like 50 separate countries or if they played like that Ryders Cup thing it might've been an interesting convo. But it's not so the convo is not really interesting.

That Serbia a country of like 5 million, should challenge the US does not make sense. Or France where basketball doesn't even rank top 5 I believe.

I think Canada, black Canada, might be the most interesting competitor. But that's probably not on the basis of having better players, it would be coaching, team dynamics, crowd, injuries and luck (i.e. not being series but just 1 game and you're out). I.e. Olympics 2004. But Olympics is in LA 28, so we'll have to wait until 2032 :flabbynsick:

Black Americans run the sport and without them, basketball looks very boring. I've watched some Euro League games and let me just say a regular pick-up game at any neighborhood is more entertaining.

However, the last couple of MVP's have mostly been foreign players. I get why the media has pivoted towards those takes.
Man, I've heard fools say euros play the purest form of basketball:mjlol:

If that means reaching your arm out to foul just to stop a fast break or just because somebody got a step on you in the half court, well I guess it is the purest:pachaha:

It's no coincidence that there is a rise in NBA front offices seeking out these overrated euro coaches like they are supposed to be some type of geniuses

Two things can be true.

True that alot of Jokic and Luka/Euroball glazing is rooted in cacs hating the dominance of Black NBA players.

But its also true that the international game is rapidly catching up to the USA and both France and Canada stand a good chance of competing for Gold in 2028.

To Durants point, people want to frame this as a “cultural deficiency” :mjpls: in the United States preparatory system due to “AAU culture” :mjpls:

When in reality AAU is just a symptom of the overall problem, which is rampant capitalism out to exploit these kids at every level without paying them or investing in their development.

I do think there’s an anti-black sentiment at play because it feels like a marketing gimmick. Like someone yelling “the best players aren’t black anymore, it’s safe to watch again.” And yet, as KD said, the US still dominates the Olympics. But you don’t see the national celebration you see with say…USA hockey right now. It’s obvious.
