Many people can shoot the fadeaway. It ain't really a special shot in 2022.

What makes Jordan's fadeaway special though is all the other shyt he can do in addition to that option: arsenal in the post, court vision from there, etc. Dude was strong enough to backdown defenders all the way down to the basket, but also quick enough to shake whoever had bad leverage on his back.

Then he had the option to shoot the fade.

Most players can only shoot the fadeaway from the post and that makes them easier to defend.

KD has built a nice post arsenal over his career, but Jordan has literally won championship after championship with one and fadeaway was the move the other team absolutely had to defend. That's why it's iconic.

It’s a basic shot. You take a shot, you don’t want it to get blocked, so you find ways for separation. Hooks shots were popular in the 40s and 50s, but I would think others used fadeaway as well.
