Having to forego buying medicine. That shyt was rough. I had an allergic reaction (i think) to something, my fukking head, eyes and throat swelled up something fierce. I had to wait it out but a few days in i was starting to have trouble breathing. I simply didn't have the money to go to a doctor or buy meds. Took about 5 or 6 days before it started to clear up. Days 3 to 6 where a little worrying.
Same period i didn't have clothes to wear :wow: I had two worn out pairs of jeans, would stitch them up as much as i could. The heels of my shoes where kept on with small screws. I ate the bare minimum, cheapest food i could find.

i used to have a gambling problem when i was younger, sports betting.

i was like 23-24. long story short i lost everything i had once and was literally DEAD BROKE until my next paycheck which wasn't coming for like another 2-3 days. i pulled into the gas station and gave the guy my last 3 dollars to put whatever i could in the tank because i was on empty... and he gave me valuable advice that day which i'll never forget.

he asked me if i was married, i said no. he asked me if i had kids, i said no. he said then there's no excuse for a man to not have any money. he wasn't even being stern or a dikk.. he said it with a smile. i wasn't even offended. who am i to say shyt i'm the dummy with only 3 dollars to pay for gas.

i really took that shyt to heart. he was right. i don't think he realized how much i needed to hear that on that day. changed my life really.

:ehh:

I was never broke cuz I was broke, I was always broke because I was a dumb young nikka that did dumb young nikka stuff..like when I first got my government job at 20 years of age and got that first check, I was livin wit my grandma so I wasn’t paying rent, went to footlocker and spent the whole check on j’s and nikes at miltown in Milwaukee (anyone that lives in WI knows bout miltown and how hood it is) I was new to the area and the sales person asked if I wanted security to walk me to my car with all the boxes, I was like nah im straight :stopitslime:…never again though :whoa:, then that following Monday couldn’t afford to put gas in my car and had to call in sick to work cuz grandma told me hell nah when i asked for gas money:snoop:..she told me "yo dumb ass gonna learn one day soon ya hear me, all them damn shoes and you aint got no gas money, boy PLZ" :bryan:..smh just dumb

Third year of college, had $0 and was living on the groceries I'd bought that previous week. Wasn't true and complete struggle, but it was struggle. I'd have been in the hole if I'd have gotten hit with any sudden charge.

At 20 I was homeless for about 7 months and bouncing from one friends place to another and sleeping on couch cushions on the floor.

Get up... walk to a local gas station, steal breakfast then figure out how my 15 hours for the week at papa johns was going to help pay court fines. Lived off random week old pizza slices and packages of donuts/gas station snacks for a minute.
