If you give Fields Ben Johnson, he still wouldnt get to where Caleb has the bears now.

As a premise, I do not disagree that Caleb has a higher ceiling and floor. However, I think this negative outlook in pairing Fields with someone like BJ is too slanted against Fields. Personally, I think he NEEDS (or needed) someone like Ben, because the Eberflus staff was very unfriendly to productive coaching and instilled bad habits in an effort to "not turn the ball over".

I think his NFL time is up, but I affirm he was done in by the shytty coaching here in Chicago. I still think he can be serviceable backup, but he clearly needs a coach that will get through fundamentally. Caleb was looking like the same brand of bust cause of how bad the old staff was in overall coaching, namely the player development.

If you look at my post history, I never said Justin was better than Caleb. I felt that by trading the pick, we could put a stacked team with Justin and if Justin STILL didn't workout, we could find a QB later while already having a ready made team (a la SF). Bears won 7 games in Justin's final season (he went 5-8) and Caleb went 5-12 in his rookie season with more weapons than Justin had. Both had the same trash coach. Caleb gets a dynamic coach, more weapons and improved offensive line, and we improved to 11 wins now everyone is saying "I told you so." Again, I think Caleb is more talented than Justin, but we'll never know how Justin would've looked with multiple weapons and competent coaching.

he's had multiple chances with multiple teams. this due simply ain't it as a passer.

he has the arm strength and mobility, but not the touch/accuracy.

Wanted Fields to succeed and still want to, but dude might have to go to a situation where the coaching/front office ain't a clown show. Not too many of those exist.

his problem is he is unable to make 2nd and 3rd progressions if his first read isn't open. a lot of times he will have tunnel vision and not look at both sides of the field, which causes him to be an ineffective passer, and why he's so quick to run when his initial read isn't open.

Even with Ben not in the discussion, the potential/ceiling of Caleb was always better than Fields(Which I feel a good chunk of this thread was about). If you give Fields Ben Johnson, he still wouldnt get to where Caleb has the bears now. That's because Fields wouldnt be able to make the big throws that Caleb has made consistently.

No, Fields problem was accuracy and hitting the consistent easy throws, he hit the deep throws.

This seems beyond obvious now, but it only really works because of Caleb AND Ben. Ben was never part of the equation during the run of this thread. Had they continued hiring Eberflus-like coaches, Caleb would have been ruined and we'd still be at the bottom of the division.
Caleb's strengths now are exactly the same as they were in USC. And the weaknesses are similar. It's not like Ben Johnson unlocked that ridiculous ability to throw that 4th down throw.
That out of structure shyt when on the run can't really be taught.

Caleb's ceiling was sky high and that's why you draft him.

It's really the colis irrational love for Fields here that was the problem.

He’s never been on a good team. The best coached team he’s been on was Pittsburgh, and while he didn’t light it up, they went 4-2 with a shaky o-line and one receiver who’s been called a head case.

I’m not denying Caleb being better than Fields, but how do you figure Fields couldn’t win with this current Bears team and coaching staff? He was 4-2 in Pittsburgh with less. Also, Caleb inherited the same team Fields had with more weapons and the Bears got worse. Also, Caleb has made superhero throws and shown to have ice in his veins, but he’s also missed the easy throws just like Fields, and was under 60% passing on the year, which is pretty subpar in 2025-26.

Just using my eyes :manny: .

Hopefully someone like the the vikings/KOC takes him and he can prove the people on the coli that believe he is some top/starting nfl caliber qb talent right. Bears got rid of him, Steelers were 4-2 with him but benched him for no reason,Glenn/jets benched him for no reason. Maybe he will get a Baker Mayfield redemption arc with the talent/potential yall claim he has.

People still holding out hope for Bustin :mjlol:

He has the physical tools but he can’t make progressions, can’t execute certain throws and touch passes, has terrible pocket footwork, makes bad decisions.
