Your response he questioned and your response to his post are not the same thing. The answer is YES you can shoot someone who in physically assaulting you. However it’s obvious that you can’t be the assailant and shoot the victim and claim self defense. The original question was a general one. Your response was specific to this situation.

Whenever that video gets posted the amount of people that think that's self defense is scary and why I wish I could Thanos snap all guns away.

One thing made crystal clear by this situation is when it comes to throwing hands, you HAVE to not only know how to do it, but treat it like you would pulling a pistol: Don't pull it if you aint gonna use it. IF you are going to punch a man, punch with intent to flatten him, not the "pap pap pap" then bounce and square up shyt. If you aren't willing to basically break your hand and wrist to collapse a man's jaw, don't swing. I almost feel like he knew the gun was there and if you even suspect a man has something he wants to use, you are fighting for your life, not to tune him up.

This was the biggest takeaway of the video. Strike first and KO. Treat everyone like they have a weapon they're about to pull on you. Lotta people have no kinda formal combat training and don't know how to fight though and couldn't even knock out a stagnant standing person
