One thing is that Jeter did everything he did when most of the other great offensive players were on roids. So, there's that..

In that very clip, didnt Posada suggest that he believed Jeter to be the greatest yankee of all time? Wouldnt it be fair to also suggest that many people put Jeter in the same pantheon as Ruth, Joe D, Mantle, etc? Was Olbermann's segment a bit provocative? Sure...of course, its a sports discussion. Its not as if he went out of his way to be an irrational douche and call Jeter trash or anything; he just put his career in its proper placement, and countered the over the top theatrics concerning all these retirement ceremonies. Would you rather he just have safe opinions all the time?

Its just crazy how you cats freak out over any opinion, no matter how well argued, that diverges from your own. He didnt say anything offensive or wild...Counter his opinion with your own facts like @Walt did...calling him names is a bit groupieish to me all because he dared to analyze Jeter's career.

That's not the best of all time nor the best at your position.

Perhaps you don't have a problem with pettiness, which Olberman's rant reeks of, but I do and it seems bytch made to me. You can make your points without sounding bitter like Olberman did, but he chose not to take that route.

he is right tho...jeter is overrated and its not his fault

its the NYC media hype

had he played in KC he would be like a Craig Biggio type of player in the history books

i had the pleasure of meeting the god, in 08 at a Bar. Random ass empty bar on the west side... Jeter was just in there chillin in a suit with a tall ass blonde bytch. I'm like "oh shyt you Derek Jeter." he was just like "yeah what up" and gave me dap.

:mjcry:
I've lived in NYC basically my entire life...I have so many friends who are not even Yankees fans or really baseball fans who have met this dude at Starbucks or at bars and shyt

Me? Nothing. Dudes been one of my sports heroes since I was in JHS...I just want to let him know that and perhaps get a pic :to:

I just want him know that his success on the field, as well as his success in making the haters mad and fukking bad broads while divesting himself of their presence with gift baskets has been inspiring me since 5th grade.

Dudes should be saluting Jeter...not coming with petty reasons why dude is "overrated".

The same leadership that kept him at SS despite his team trading for a superior player?

Jeter and A-Rod had a rivalry, not too mention he was the man on that team, can't expect him to humble himself and it wouldn't be a good look for Torre to move him to 2B.

I don't have a dog in this fight, not a Yankees or Jeter fan, but I do respect the guy. I just can't wait for the day Olbermann's skeletons come public. You know they're there. But he tears people down as if they are not. It's time for these figures to be treated the same way they treat any other public figure besides themselves.

Ideally he would've left after that renaissance year in 2012.

The other thing people forget, is he suffered a massive injury for a player his age the year after doing .362 OBP... changing the course or the last two seasons.

If he continues on the path he was on - factoring in the outlier 212 year - he probably does .290/.340-.350 OBP, .740 OPS... and he's probably hanging it up after next season or so, without the horrid numbers we're seeing right now.
