96 was 18 years ago...I went to my first yankee game in 95 and been loving the team and sport of baseball ever since. To say im not a real yankee fan because of that is not really fair. I can understand Mattingly having some NY respect like Ewing for the Knicks but if Melo brought NY that first ring in decades dude would immediately jumper over some Knick legends as the top dawg.

At the end of the day this last season for Jeter was so ass.....Team could have actually made the playoffs sadly enough but the offensive inconsistencies hurt them a lot....it didn't help that Jeter isn't good anymore to begin with.

The backlash against Jeter is overwhelmingly due to jealousy. Period. The absurdity of people being upset that a player who is arguably top 3 at his position all time is being slurped in his last season is self-evident.
