2. Baseball is the probably the most individual of the major sports. A captain on the basketball court is gonna get the ball at the last second usually.
A captain on the football field is gonna get the plays in his ear/call audibles and whatnot. If you need a hit in the bottom of the 9th, and you're at the 7th hitter in the lineup, the captain can't do chit to help you. Bucky Dent, Jim Leyritz, and Aaron Boone weren't captains - and it didn't matter.
