Kelis - Wanderland is one of the most slept on RNB / Pop albums of all time

This is so true b/c if you think about it back in the day the R&B chics had a specific look and sound (Destiny's Child, Mariah, Monica, Brandy, Faith, Chante Moore, 702...). Kelis broke that with her debut and her single in 99. I think the label heads were confused and didn't know how to market her. I mean chics are just now starting to jack her look from back then. She low key created a lane that most were afraid to follow and didn't get picked until years later. Now most of these chics trying to follow in her footsteps but can barely make a good album let alone 3 great to damn good albums like she did. And most importantly she could actually sing.

yeah songs like beyonces ring the alarm..acutally alot of beyonce stuff ..remind me of kelis and the song structure of alot new rnb is experimental..like you said alot of groups were following a mold...kelis was kinda out the box...
