1. prove himself after being injured at duke
2. prove he could play with another star and win a ring (accomplished)
3. prove he could lead his own team to a ring without lebron and that the celtics made the right move in trading thomas (which was controversial to some at the time because thomas was balling and how he gutted it out after his sister died)
4. now prove he is better than kemba (?), beat the celtics and win a ring with KD

hes had no shortage of reasons to be motivated throughout his career.
