His power, anyway you define it, was NEVER underrated.
Andres Galarraga had roughly the same number of homers as Alfonso Soriano.

You really gonna sit there and act like both guys were perceived as equal power hitters?

:mjlol:

You clowns know what I’m getting at but refuse to backtrack upon clarification.

To me Mariners griffey is in that same rarified air as Cardinals Pujols and Mariners Arod. Amazingly patient hitters that can pull the ball either way and hit for contact and power.

He wasn’t Barry Bonds strong though.

Yes, he was.
He was better than bonds potentially.

Real talk, tho.

fukk baseball, till infinity.

Who are you calling a dumbass?
Mainly the jackasses on page one who couldn’t understand that while Griffey was always a great talent and prospect...he wasn’t always perceived as having top end raw power.

The original thread was just “Griffey’s power was underrated”. And rather than address every new moron who came in the thread talking about “he hit 600 homers!!”...I edited the title to highlight his RAW power.

And of course, rather than admitting that Griffey wasn’t ever looked at in the classical slugger perspective, they just double down because that’s what the coli does.

The fact is Griffey was always considered an elite player in the 5 tool sense. (So was Bonds). They were never really viewed as guys that were gonna hit 450 footers routinely...though they did, sometimes.
