Just stop looking to the pop culture crowd for validation with hip-hop. I don't see that happening anytime soon though.

The window for Black artists to put up #'s is slim right now, but as with any trend one day it'll sway back.
For my number geeks, entertainment is usually sinusoidal. It goes for trends, music, sports, etc. Right now you have white artists stealing Black artists' music, but it'll eventually get overcrowded, drained, and bland by them. They'll eventually fiend for something more "organic." That opens the door for a solid Black artist to come around and they'll go all out for it. Yet like all the greats before, they still won't get love from any of their award shows.
If the future was now, plenty of artists today would be on Prince's level. Maybe not quite in terms of overall music genius, but

relative to what's out.
The same thing is happening right now, just in reverse, except the love from one side isn't being shown because it's pretty much theft.
