I don't get why cats would hate on Jay for doing features, he's done about 5 features in 2 years and like 2 if we exclude Kanye projects. Compared to the only ones comparable Nas and Raekwon who has about 20 in the past 2 years. If we compare with the younger dudes like Wayne, Drake and Ross :whew:.

Personally like I said, I think features, as in verses that are just added verses to a song are 95% of the time completely unnecessary from a musical standpoint.

Difference is, Nas will do a verse for Killah Priest, Freddie Foxx, Beastie Boys etc just outta love. He still does the YMCMB shyt but its reasonable when hes helping non-payola acts as well. Rae's the same and will generally do a verse for any respectable underground act that reaches out.

Every Jay feature or collabo is a calculated BACKSCRATCH. No one's getting a Jay cosign if it doesnt directly flow back into his brand. Dude is a legend and prolly the most successful rap artist we'll ever see but damn...its so transparent :pachaha:

You are saying this as if you know them both personally though, and I doubt you do. If so, ask Nas if we'll ever get that Lost Tapes 2.

Jay has worked with cats like Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, M.O.P., Lupe Fiasco (executive produced his first album, and featured on it), where it doesn't seem he really had anything to gain, but out of respect. You will instantly look at that as he did it for his own gain only though, and that's crazy.

Not really. You may not know this, but if you posted on :hamster: you would see me defending Takeover and the Blueprint over Ether and Stillmatic, and I still would. Ive seen dude in concert twice and wouldve described myself as a super fan up until about 2-3 years ago.

The game changed A LOT in the last 2-3 years. Old guys stepped back, new guys jumped in. Radio and major labels stopped being influential and the blogosphere basically became a large gold rush and bidding war to find new talent. Hov made it a definitive point to keep himself "visible" and not be an old-head, and hes done a great job. He's extremely well networked and I'd need two hands and feet to list off all of his achievements. Theres like 2 degrees of separation between him and every major urban act.

BUT, I call a spade a spade. I dont fukk with this new "Rap Ambassador when its convenient for Jay-Z" status he has now. I'm not much of a fan anymore, aside from a few good verses on WTT :manny:

Its also entertaining to antagonize those that idolize him as they would their father :scusthov:
