People clearly don't know what makes a dope music video. This shyt doesn't even do the song justice. Visuals are supposed to elevate a song, this isn't the case here at all.

Ehh....I got the movie reference and how it ties in with the song/album though, so I thought it was awesome. If you didn't catch the reference, vid most certainly loses a lot of context.

Totally agree. The problem is that rosenbergs listen with their eyes first and then with their ears (or sometimes not at all). The funny thing is that if you look at the 'top 3', Ducktales is the most dependent on imaging. He's entering that Beyonce space in rap - or at least trying really hard to get there. Beyonce will drop a visual album, mix in a bit of controversy, have woke bloggers write a million bullshyt think pieces about mish-mash songs, and then the songs are promptly forgotten.

I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. Imagery is always welcomed no matter the artist. My only issue would be the visuals not matching the tone of the song.

Humble was a great success due in part of the music video, social media, and the artist himself. It's a lot easier to show someone, "a new Kendrick Lamar music video" rather than just the single. Many songs are consumed and forgotten which is why we have classics. He's talented, consistent and sometimes that's all you can ask for. I like Cole but he's been in the same box for years while at the same time improving.

Every-time Kendrick drops something, good or bad. There's always part of me that wonders if anyone will fukk with it.

fair point breh. and I have no problem with any of that (especially the bolded) as long as we keep it real and stop trying to rewrite hip hop history to accommodate an obvious pop artist. Kendrick has more in common with Beyonce than he does with Nas - let's be reality. From presentation all the way down to fanbase
