Kendrick Lamar's 'Good Kid M.A.A.D City' Turns 13

I wasn't too familiar with Kendrick when this dropped but bought the album purely off the hype.

First listen I was very impressed. One of the last albums that genuinely had a real buzz and anticipation

Yeah I had checked out of new hip-hop at that time but kept hearing so much hype about that album on here and another site and from a few friends. Checked it a few months after it dropped and was completely blown away. Went back and checked out Section 80 as well and just felt like he was refreshing considering how trash most of the hip-hop I was hearing at the time was.

I remember discovering Kendrick and Big Krit at the same time and I would bump Section 80 and Return of 4Eva all the time. And people would ask me what I was I listening to and I would always mention Big Krit because I thought he would be the one to blow up and the easier to digest out of the two. GKMC's popularity caught me off guard. Still his best album in my opinion.

His 4th best album (TPAB being objectively his magnum opus, and probably a top 5 album of all time in any genre), yet still one of the best albums of all time...thats how great his catalog is.

It's not even a top 4 kendrick album though, quality wise. It's indeed a classic.

You know a nikka has one of the best discogaphies ever when an album like GKMC sits at the bottom of your catalog.

Gkmc would be 99.9% of these rappers' best album, but when it comes to Kendrick, it's like his weakest effort.
