I like the direction he went on this album in terms of sound. I'm unsure how I feel about the album in terms of content and him refusing to further comment on the album's content is rather suspect. It's as if he isn't as smart as people think he is.

I can see that. I didn't like the "what about black on black crime" message on "the blacker the berry" and the double message on "complexion" even though I love the record sonically. And I feel like he's being propped up as a "safe" conscious artist(in the same way j cole is being marketed as an everyman), esp. since he's on a label by jimmy iovine. As far as the "no politics!" thing i see it as them towing the line so he can appeal to the black community and the taylor swifts of the world at the same time. So yea...
