depth is not density. Unless that's what you were trying to say when you said 'density'.

There are a lot of tense songs/books/films that are instantly forgettable.

Not going to get into a semantics debate here. I use the words interchangable with regard to a variety of records, books, shows, etc. Whether it's The Wire or The Black Saint & The Sinner Lady. The Wire could be described as "dense" as well as a show with lots of "depth" (a storyline that keeps you thinking, multiple story arcs, little hand holding, fully developed characters, etc). Likewise TPAB engages you on multiple fronts
and takes awhile to fully digest.

please don't bring up The Wire. :snoop:

In fact, let's keep this convo hip hop. What's an example of a great dense hip hop album to you that isn't TPAB?

What is wrong with Kendrick's image? Why is it manufactured? Cause it doesn't fall in line with the typical image associated with rappers?

And I'm getting tired of seeing "too dense." Why should Kendrick dumb down and simplify? There's literally 100 nikkas to run to for hot beats and sort, catchy chanting for 3 minutes.

I asked this in another thread with no answer...what do nikkas want from Kendrick?

@SirBiatch

What is your opinion on Kendrick as a lyricist? Just forget about the other stuff, I'm just curious about how you'd rate his bars

It's easier to think of some from a lyrical perspective than a musical (as in instruments and/or beats) perspective. From last year the first that comes to mind is Billy Woods' Today I Wrote Nothing. It's basically a collection of "dense" lyricism and songs that almost feel like vingettes. I'd imagine most Coli folks wouldn't fukk with it due to the sparse production and his rapping style, but if you like DOOM you might like it.

De La Soul's Buhloone Mindstate comes to mind. More recently I'd point to The Roots' Game Theory, which is such a weird record emotionally. Very dark, brooding, and angry with them trying some new things as well as paying homage to Dilla.

Dunno if everyone wants to call it a "hip hop" record but DJ Shadow's Endtroducing also, production wise.

Yeah
We can all admit that he "puts out" dope shyt....but his image is so manufactured and narrow that by the time you've digested some of the most dense offerings on the market, you realize that you just can't throw his shyt on all the time and expect to be satisfied. Its just either too dense, misses the mark, or sounds like everything else he does...and often times, while you might give his projects high marks...you'll rarely play them again
Can't lie I only play his shyt when I'm mad at white people or cleaning the house.

Op is a troll and a Kendrick hater. Music is subjective. So replay value will vary with person. Fact. Op is an idiot curry eating fakkit.
