Well in college ball, when they say someone is granted release from their scholarship, it's not like the NFL where the team just cut him because he wasn't producing or whatever. When they say that, it's because the player requested a transfer, and the team okay'ed it. For a player to transfer, the team has to "release" him from his scholarship after he requests the transfer or else he can't. There have been some cases in the past (Rob Bolden at PSU comes to mind) when a player wants to transfer and the team won't okay it so he wasn't "released" from his scholarship. It's kinda confusing terminology since it doesn't have the same meaning as in the pros.Well yeah but usually they'll atleast rot on the bench and still enjoy the benefit of an athletic scholarship if they underperform. Then again I don't know of his behavioral issues if he had any
