I used to watch animal shows when I was a kid, and they basically said pride of lions is controlled by the females. There is the male lion who breeds with all the females, but he has to be fighting off younger males who want to take his spot during breeding season.
But as the king male in pride, he just sits back and relaxes because it is the females who do all the hunting and cub rearing. He just gets to fukk and eat.

Big apex predators like lions need to hunt in packs to bring down big game.

I don't know what these two lions are eating, but they are probably not doing a good job hunting.
