Domestic violence: Kenya’s 'hidden epidemic'

Kenya's 'hidden epidemic': Gender-based violence

When the Covid pandemic hit Kenya, cases of gender-based violence exploded. But a combination of fear, stigma and a lack of trust in the police mean the majority of cases are never reported.

It has been described as Kenya’s "hidden epidemic".

Africa Eye reporter Tom Odula investigates the deep-seated roots behind the violence, discovers the trauma behind the shocking statistics, and explores the police and government inaction that leaves survivors with little hope of justice.

Why do other Africans need to answer for domestic violence in Kenya?

why is this failure at life @The Hon. Stringer Bell tagging Jamaicans to answer for domestic violence in Kenya? :dead:

the plight of those women is only going to be used as a bargain chip in the c00n wars of the coli not discussed out of concern. :russell:

let me NOT start my monday by entertaining ignorance.

you don't care bout those women just using them for bait.

always look at peoples motives to see who they are.

you better than this. don't fall in with the c00n royal rumble posse. :scust:

what is it about the law enforcement occupation no matter the country that doesn't give domestic violence the serious attention it deserves?:patrice:
culture of misogyny but to be fair cops in Kenya don't show up for shyt.

Domestic abuse was pretty common when I was growing up but mostly amongst the poor and uneducated. similar to most other places...

I had a neighbour who used to drink and have his wife jumping out the window naked running from beats like it was a routine every weekend.

Very heartbreaking. You can tell there is a culture of domestic violence there when the man says his grandma told him he must beat his wife. Some of these things become harder to change because they take place in villages or very poor areas so they're cut off from the rest of the country or more mainstream thinking. It's clear that those men don't even believe they're doing anything wrong so it won't be easy to change their minds especially when there aren't strong enough repercussions from law enforcement.

Women do not have a voice in most parts of Africa, it's heartbreaking.
Kenyan women are actually very confident and outspoken plus accomplished. society has parallels of existence. This reality exists right next to one that is vastly different. a land of contrasts. Notice the setting of this documentary is concentrated in a particular socio economic class..

How accurate would it be for me to tour the worst hoods in America to make a report about Black America.

This sensationalized reporting by white people of the "dark continent" is nothing new. old as tradition.

Another thing to note is that when covid pandemic hit domestic violence stats went up word wide. this isn't a Kenyan based phenomenon.

Insane how nikkas use domestic violence to fuel their diaspora bullshyt

fukking ridiculous...and can't even get their countries right
yup we could have had a decent discussion but instead the suffering of other Black people is ammo for a petty war. far too many times has this been done here. they see an African attacked by a foreigner they run to post it here to celebrate and gloat. same with this video.

always look at the motivations of these posters. WHAT SELF RESPECTING BLACK PERSON TAKES JOY IN BLACK SUFFERING?
