A lot of the preservatives in the US are banned in UK

:patrice: Think the UK was throwing shots at American women with the bottle shapes contrasting like that?

Has to do with portions too

Americans like larger quantities in everything whereas in europe portions are smaller. Also I would guess to balance the cost of importing this stuff the company itself reduces the size in order to get more bottles out of every container. Just a guess on that second one

Why is corn syrup in everything in the US? That’s one thing noticed when I visited, I don’t get it. There’s already a ton of sugar in most of our shyt, you don’t need to add corn syrup.

Conn Syrup is cheaper. The measurements aren’t right, but just saying as an example. A 1/4 cup of corn syrup is equal to a cup of sugar in sweetness. So companies can spread it out more, use less, and still get the same taste.

Corn is abundant and cheap so they pack every thing with shyt made from corn to cut out all the other ingredients. That's how they make more money per bottle.

That's why Indian food is so popular in England.

I went to Ireland and they do some stuff very well, but overall it's also not a great food country either.

Anyone going to either of these countries for their food need their head examined. Neither country developed a culture of cuisine.

it goes deep, but the short version is that corn is used in every produced & processed food in the US, due to a combination of USDA subsidies and lobbying. im not even sure exactly why or how, but corn farming is subsidized for some reason. its basically a kickback scheme ran by the corn lobby, agriculture contractors and "big food."

I really dont understand the depths of it but once you look into how corn is used, and who is benefitting, it leads you down a massive rabbit hole. much like the rest of our economy, its just a circle jerk cycle of private and public businesses creating problems on one end and selling a solution on the other - all to the detriment to the consumer and the environment

in the US - any drink, sauce or condiment that would normally call for real sugar just uses HFCS instead, or sometimes HFCS and sugar together

corn is used in things you wouldnt even imagine in the US, even indirectly somewhere down the line in the creation process

the good thing, i guess, about the US is that there are always alternatives. even if the mass produced, easily accessible stuff is pure garbage, in this day and age there are dozens of better and healthier, more natural alternatives available. even now available in areas and to certain demographics that would historically not have access. people dont have to be stuck with garbage anymore...but not everyone is up to speed on the different options available to them.

ketchup is gross but you can make your own good tasting, natural ketchup at home for cheap if you wanted
