Yes, because to trade for Kobe you had to nix your whole roster, kind of like Melo with the Knicks and Kobe said nvm. Won't be the case in KD's situation though, not sure any team is willing to do that. If I am the Nets, the best bet is to still go out there and give this team a chance. Joe Tsai needs to let go of his ego
durant and kyrie could stay in Brooklyn for the whole next season and there'd still be a good chance the trio would play 0 games with Simmons by the end of next year.

Sure, but my point is that even Kobe had the power to control whether or not he got traded. Player power has grown exponentially with the growth of the game worldwide and the realization that elite players are so much more valuable than other players because of how much influence they have on the game. It's not like the Lakers told Kobe to stop whining and get to practice. They explored a trade at his request because ultimately, Kobe held the power in that relationship.

From what was said after, Dr. Buss was never going to trade him. They took a look at a couple packages to show that he would have to go to a gutted team, which he didn't want. Buss then promised to bring some help. But I suppose if he was hellbent on it, they would have had to. Buss just called his bluff
