We see what he means, it ain't just African-American. Yeah, some people define black to equal African-American, but they also mean literally black as in race. I've seen too many times some say they just mean African-American, but the more you deal with them, you see it also means black as in race. What they say about different deep topics will let you know who is who.

comments like Gates' cuz it can come off as self hate. I feel the same about those who look down on their fellow black people too & choose to ride for other peoples agendas or not recognized that they're
being used as puppets in certain instances, but i still know theres a difference between nationality and race.

I still got love for all my fellow black people - dark, light, brown, male, female, christian, atheist, muslims, jews etc as long as they know they black too & dont let them be pets for other peoples agendas (ie some muslims etc). Yall my folks too, for real.

I've never even seen no difference. Never let that register within my sub-conscience.

But I don't think he's from Puerto Rico, his mother is. I guess it's his way of connecting with her, and because she raised him, along with her family members, he considers himself Puerto Rican. I'm not stupid, I get it, but is it really true? This goes to all people who are first, and second generation people in this country. It's like me calling myself a southerner, just because my mother is from the south, and she raised me. I'm a NYC boy, and I accept it. I know my roots is from the south, but who I am is from the north.

I'm just thinking right now, I really could care less how he views himself, because it doesn't change his position in this world, and that is at the bottom because he is nonwhite, and has melanin, along with having direct lineage to the slave of the west which is black folk, and native americans(all of the americas). It's just sad how someone who has the potential to be a deep thinker, just plays with it, and end up sounding dumb(Kevin Gates).

Your post got me thinking, why does people who think differently from most people they know, have this assumption that they are thinking for themselves? Having a different thinking doesn't equal thinking for yourself. You can be thinking like your enemy, because he has had more influence on you, not because you just meditated on a thought, and came to a conclusion. With blacks our enemy is everywhere we go, everything we listen to, everything we watch, and even in school. It is in our life from the first day we come into this world, so if you are black or mixed with it, you are a fool if you think you are thinking for yourself, and haven't even figured out why things are the way they are in the world. Once you do that, THEN you can claim you are thinking for yourself.
