That's a good question and I honestly don't know the answer. I'm thinking it's been a slow-slow chipping away at dignity and feeling shame throughout the years. We've had things like Freaknik, Hype Williams videos brought us video vixens, BET Uncut, 2 Live Crew, everybody beefing after seeing 50's success, etc.. It's been a lot of things throughout the last twenty or thirty years or so preparing us for this era of anything goes.
Well it was a combination, of a couple factors. When the "street/thug" era ended wit 50, and they opened the doors for dudes like Ye GET ON, and take that crown (softer, emotional, square ass nggas), it opened the floodgates. There was a gradual progression, of softer, and weirde lr individuals, to WHAT WE HAVE TODAY.
In come the Cudis, the Uzi's, etc. Birdman openly, talkin bout kissin on Wayne. And TBH the flagrant vibes of ATL and some of their artists, pushed the envelope even more (Young Thug, Quan) wit that zesty, ass culture down there.
Til it became normalized. Now we have nggas openly talkin bout fukkin trannies, being gangsta pop tarts (Kyng)....etc.
Frankly, it started with a lot of you south nggas.
Don't shoot the messenger.
