CNN's Don Lemon and Kevin Hart, had a spirited back-and-forth on Thursday's “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” over the Washington Redskins name controversy.

“Well, I ain't never call no one no Redskin. I've never been mad like ‘get out of this restaurant, you Redskin.” Hart, who's starring in new release “Think Like a Man Too,” said.

“We've been called the n-word,” Joyner said.” Who has ever been called a Redskin other than the team? Is it fair to compare being called the N-word?”

“I'm not comparing the N-word,” Lemon said.

They two traded semantics over the terms of their debate, then got into the heavy stuff.

“It's not in the same bar,” Hart said. “We don't know how (Native Americans) feel personally because we're not them, but this has existed for twenty years.”

“You mean Redskins?” Lemon said. “Yeah, they've been using it since the 1930s.”

“Now — to say it's a problem, it's a team name,” Hart said. “Nobody uses that word in a way to where it's insulting, it's celebrated, you have fans who celebrate the Washington Redskins, they rejoice, whether it's win or lose, we love the Redskins.”

“What if they were called the Washington Blackfaces, Washington N-words?” Lemon asked.

“You can't say it's the same,” Hart said. “It's not the same, Don.”

Lemon said he was only talking about the origin of the word over time.

The way I look at it, ok maybe there was no intent of malice with the name, even if that is the case you have a people that are victims of genocide that get no real acknowledgement in society other than when people use their image for a sports logo, I mean obviously people are going to feel a way about that, why wouldn't you expect controversy over that?

TYRONE GA!
Agree with Kevin hart.
Natives can be mad about it and all, and have the right to get that name changed.
But nikka dont these other motherfukkers try to compare this to "nikka" cuz it way too different.

To us it may be different, but native americans might not feel the same way. That line of thinking is no different than cacs telling us how we should feel about the word nikka.

Can't stand dumb ass nikkaz

What if a WNBA had a team called the Washington Redbones with Laura London look alike as the mascot

or if NFL had a team called the Detroit Dope Boys with a nikka with cartier glasses and blunt in his mouth for the logo

it has nothing to do with racial slur, but the dehumanization of the image of a group of people

nobody has the problem with the kansas city chiefs with to me is comparison to Minnesota Vikings

now if I took the viking culture with the same logo and called that shyt the Minnesota Pale Faces, I bet you white folks would feels some type of way about it

this is a non-iussue but because its attached to the nfl them and the politicans use it to get some airtime. they should be dealing with real problems like how fukked up reservations are. not as interesting but 1000x more important

Perhaps they could parlay this non-issue into actually having a voice in this country and get to work on their other issues.
