Here's the 2003 NBA dunk contest in ATL just so yall can remember what a great dunk contest looks like

Man I know the quality of basketball wasn't the best but I really miss early 2000s NBA.

nikkas just seemed to be cut from a different cloth than these "too cool for school" players in the league today.

I miss the baggy jerseys, I miss the influence of and1 and hip hop in the league, I miss nikkas not being afraid to actually enjoy themselves in the crowd like Starbury, KG, Shaq, Dikembe, Gary Payton etc.....there are no characters left in the NBA. I mean you got a few but they are drowned out by the countless emo dry personality losers that have infiltrated this league the last few years.

Blame it on Stern. He wanted these players to be like this.

do the players even still get paid for winning their events? nothing wrong with emphasizing the charitable intentions of the wknd but using the whole 'team' angle as a vessel for it simply takes away from the individuality that the all star competition is supposed to represent.

there shouldn't have been a 'tag team relay' for the skills comp; or at worse it should've been players from the same team (like dragic and another suns player) so at least there could be some feeling of bragging rights or celebratory affiliation for the players and fans.. instead of a random dragic/reggie jackson pairing as if anyone actually thinks of it as 'yay we're team west!" for that shyt.

And of course, no way should george wall ross and lillard have been put in a situation where they could potentially only do 2 dunks for the entire competition. At the end of the day, they had some star power for the comp but ultimately wasted it by trying too hard with this east/west team shyt when nobody cares about that outside of the Sunday game. Saturday should be about individuality and you can still make it about charity without taking away from the historic/traditional appeal of the festivities; like have it where the players prize money is matched for whatever charity or something, etc.

Yeh it took a dude from that generation (90s/00s) to bring some life to the whole thing otherwise mclemore was a complete stiff. I don't know if its the way these dudes were raised that's different or if they are just PR'd to death by their advisers, but it's crazy how dry the personalities are in the league compared to lets say 10-15 years ago. Most of the players left that actually show some personality, character, and emotion on their sleeve (JET, Artest, Kobe, KG) are all leftovers from that past generation.

Who from today could you imagine doing something like this off the cusp?

Is there a single player you can think of who could provide us fukkery like this anymore?
