Who's confused? People are simply stating their opinion about what was discussed, someone will pay him the max because they feel like he's earned it. His statement is correct based on play and results/impact, not based on the way contracts are given out. Kevin love doesn't "deserve " to be given a max contract. It's either you agree with that basic statement or you don't. Everything else is irrelevant to what he said.

I of course meant negotiate in terms of putting across his potential as a basketball player going forward. His agent doesn't do that, his play on the court does. A bad year on an ill-fitting side doesn't erase the 26 and 13 he put up last year in the minds of front offices and GM's looking for a star.
