Here's my impression after listening through the album twice.
If you don't fukk with the whole sound-story album vibe, this album isn't for you. You'll probably like By Design, ILLusions, and Rose Golden.
If you fukk with the whole sound-story vibe, MOTM2, Indicud, and the sound he brought with Satellite Flight, you'll love this. By that I mean most of the production sounds like a mix of all those put together. As far as lyrics go, I didn't expect it to be great and I wasn't disappointed by that. But lyrics weren't what I was looking for, I wanted to hear and feel his flow, which I enjoyed all the way through.
I'll admit, there are a few songs in there that I feel compelled to skip, but it's moreso because I want to get to one specific song after. I'll skip Releaser to get to By Design. I'll skip Baptized in Fire for Flight at First Sight / Advanced. And I don't think that's a bad thing because Cudi is bringing more of a story here than a bunch of hits throughout the album. If I want to experience the whole album, I'll listen to each one, but if I want to feel something specific, I'll just skip to whatever song.
You might not like Wounds the first time through, but it has its place when you feel the struggle he feels. It felt like All Along from MOTM2 but more aggressive, less hopeless, and Cudi trying to guide you to feel better about whatever shyt you feel. And that's not the only 'part 2' vibe - you get it from Dance 4 Eternity, similar to Enter Galactic from MOTM1, just way way simpler in terms of lyrics. And the more evident, The Commander with Heart of a Lion from MOTM1 as well.
I want to get back to the story aspect. I can't say for sure, but in the beginning, he "taps into a frequency" which is sort of a signal he begins to feel.
It presents him this idea of how the world is (Frequency - By Design). After By Design, he trusts 'her', feeling she is the one, willing to go through their relationship no matter what (All In. We'll get back to this).
After realizing how the world is, he lets go of everything how he perceived to be, allowing himself to be free (Illusions - Does it). By feeling free, he confesses truths of how he feels about her, with each song moving forward of how their relationship unfolds. It goes from this fantastic fantasy to a deep cut into his heart, simultaneously explaining to himself how to get through this pain (Dance 4 Eternity - Wounds). And briefly, he drifts off in his mind, feeling at peace, reminding himself that he's exposed so much of himself to trust her and that's love enough (Mature Nature).
This love phase ends with him affirming that he's still all in with her (Kitchen).
And in the end, he pushes onward with a positive demeanor, preaching to us that we are always in control for our lives. While that's his last word to us, he goes off to do his own thing, unconscious about what other individuals are doing (Cosmic Warrior, The Commander, Surfin').
I omit The Guide from this story because of the last 4 songs, this one sounds like a step backwards from going to somewhere positive. It isn't to say that what he speaks about is negative, but when you hear Cosmic Warrior, The Commander, and Surfin, it doesn't sound like The Guide fits.
TLDR: another Cudi story sound album. Lyrics are simple, some are repetitive. Focus is on emotion. Flow is great. It's a mix of MOTM2, Indicud, and the sound of Satellite Flight. sitting between an 8-9/10 for me. Love it as an emotionally struggling dude.

anyone notice the end of Flight At First Sight/Advanced sounds just like that missy comeback song "wtf".
Gave it a few listens, and it's a big improvement. Basically shows that he's aware of what his core sound is and what his fans want.
There's still some filler, and the production is shaky on a few records but I'll be damned if I didn't catch a vibe on a few joints that remind me of when I first heard dude back in like 08....
Solid 3.5 on 5 for me, and that's after like three 2/5 albums or worse

This shyt is so wack that its kinda sad like wtf happened to cudi?! I respect that he has his own lane but this aint for me... only song i could listen to fully was the joint with 3000 and surfing which i feel like gassed me to think this would actually be his comeback album musically. This is just as bad as that last weed plate he dropped
