You can lock your gun up with a fingerprint lock or a passcode lock that is easy to access for you, but impossible for someone else to get into on a whim. So no, they were neglectful in how they maintained control over their gun. They get no excuse from me on this issue.

I agree with this one even with the optics as society is finally starting to hold parents more accountable now for when their kids access guns that are located in their homes. It also wouldn't surprise me if that comes up in court as well.
