Kids Truly Are a Gift and a Curse

Only thing I wish I did differently was NOT get pregnant at 18. I will say I have a great BD and familial support, so I was fortunate enough not to go through the stereotypical single mom struggle troupe.

My oldest is a teenager now and I’m honestly glad I don’t have a little ass kid at my age, and don’t have to worry about a babysitter.

Only issue I’m dealing with right now is the teenage attitude. I be ready to knock his head off daily

I think you need to talk someone @Hathaway. Or at least consult your doctor about other options. It’s one thing to blow off steam but these threads are reoccurring. You may be falling into a bout of depression.

This reminds me of when my littlest sister got her first cold. Literally everyone in the family but me knew she was sick yet they still let me share my ice cream with her. That was the worst cold I ever had, plus I had final exams too.

I was legit in pain and popping cough-drops like tic tacs. I'd rather take a stomach virus over a flu or a cold. I cannot handle that sore throat.

The whole thing. you basically talked out both sides of your mouth. My mother did the same thing and that shyt cut DEEP. It translates to us as "if I had a do over I woulda..." how you think that makes us feel? shyt supposed to happen for a reason. Lowkey there was resentment there too...not sure about your case. But things like "trial and error mistakes". nah fukk all that. fukk what he desevered he had no say in that. You and his pops gave him what he got. Sorry but I can relate and that struck a nerve.

I swear I was just thinking something similar last night.

People who don’t have children will never get it. I don’t regret my children and I love them more than anything in this world. I’d die for them without a second thought. However, knowing what I know now I’d probably have made better decisions in my younger years. I’d want the same children…just maybe at a slightly older age and with a lot more preparation.

Parenthood is not for the weak.

Edit: I will say this though. Me getting pregnant at 18 with my first child was definitely a gift and a curse. It was hard as hell and still is sometimes but he’s now a teenager and is a Godsend when it comes to his siblings. He has kept me from pulling my hair out so many days.

I think this is why I've decided I don't want children.

Every time a parent talks about their kids, it always sounds like you sound.

"My child is the greatest thing the universe has ever created. I love my child more than you love air. I would fight a rabid flaming grizzly bear for my child and I would do it with a smile on my face... buuuuuuuuut.... I kinda fukking hate being a parent."

And there's nothing wrong with loving something enough to fight a flaming bear for it, but that's just not for me.

I'm not here to bash children but I've seen many threads on here from people questioning whether or not they want to have kids someday. I'm a realistic guy. My opinions are based in reality only and not ignorant optimism. Hear my tale:

I've mentioned on here earlier this week that I've been sick with a bad strain of the flu. I've never had a flu virus riddle my body the way this one has. Diarrhea, insomnia, loss of appetite, dehydration, fevers peaking at 104F, body aches, migraines, chills. Everything. Excruciating.

I got sick from my youngest son who more than likely caught it from another kid at school. The doctor pulled me from work for 5 days. A entire weeks pay gone. That shyt will hurt. I'm on the down end of it now finally and so is my son but here's the other problem. I got 2 sons. And my eldest son is more than likely gonna end up getting sick from his brother which means me and /or my wife will have to miss more days again. Even though we tried to keep them apart, it's impossible with two toddlers.

Its scenerios like these I wish the ogs would've laid out for me back before I had children. They always say kids are a blessing, they enhance your life. And that is true but the opposite is true as well. They are a curse at times and drain you.

Next week, my typical 45 hour work days will likely increase to 50 just so I can catch up. I will have to pull some extra OT because my sons bday is in 2 weeks and I'll be damned if I don't make sure he gets everything he wants.

I was not ready to be a father financially. I fukked up twice. Do not make the same mistakes I made. It really has ruined my life and trapped me on a treadmill of despair and defeat.

2 things can be true at once. Kids are a gift and a curse.

My sons school gives them a lot of classwork and little homework. This boy couldn't do a damn page of math and a reading assignment.

He's now lost gaming priveleges for 2 weeks. And if he still disobeys it will be for a month. Then 2 months then 4 months. then the rest of the year.

Haw man I hope he makes it. Defiance will Not be tolerated.

No where in anything that I said did I even infer that I hated being a parent. Literally all I said was that I wish I would have waited a couple more years until I was more mature and financially stable. Point. Blank. Period.
