90s rappers perfected 80s formula, technological advancements in sampling, artistic exploration and cultural zeitgeist of the 90s made the decade what it was. The students graduated. 00s, they got corporate jobs. 10s, they retired.

Most rap before 1992/93 sounds ancient when compared to its predecessors.

The difference between 91 to 93 is enormous where 93 to 97 isn’t as distinctive of a difference.

In a vacuum I agree. There is madddddd shhit you have to take into consideration though if you really want to dive into this conversation seriously. Of course the next generation is gonna be “better” or more advanced than the previous…they’re standing on the shoulders of giants, the blueprints were laid for them by the luminaries. The rappers/etc… at the beginning of hip hop created with no direct reference points…they’re the architects. To create some shhit from scratch deserves more credit than just building off of and expanding something that was already there for you..

The 80's had a better spirit.

But artistically, the 90's took Hip-Hop to its highest level.

Facts right here.

The 80's felt incredible. Way more pure, and just the true essence of what Hip Hop is supposed to be.

But the 90's took the music, sonically, to a level that hasn't been bested since.
