Make a song called "Kill Your Masters", and then brag about being part of the financial system you've been shytting on for four albums, brehs. :dead:

But for real though, this is a case where both sides of the argument are fukking corny.

Fantano makes a habit of taking his criticisms of artists he doesn't like too far, veering into attacking the person that made the music, instead of the music itself, then hiding behind the concept of criticism. Brehs on here likely don't want to agree, since they don't like either of them, but he earned whatever intense dislike Logic and Drake have or had for him. There's a fine line between saying you don't like an artists music, and saying you don't like THEM, and he's happy to be a habitual line stepper in that regard, especially since every instance is monetized on YouTube anyway.

But at the same time, Killer Mike really does come off as a hypocrite. You really can't be out here spitting all that renaissance man revolutionary shyt like you're for real pro black, and be buddy buddy with people who are active threats to us like it's nothing. Not to mention that breh really spent a decade of his career spitting pseudo intellectual so called anarchist revolutionary raps for your music you're acutely aware has a predominantly white audience, but fall back on that tired preacher disappointed in his congregation shtick as soon as the first fukking verse on his album that's clearly meant for a blacker audience. :dead:

Breh makes some decent to good music which I respect, but you can't seriously expect to be someone who attempts to be leader in our community while also often talking down to said community, and kicking it our known enemies without SOMEONE taking issue with it.

Agreed on Fantano. At some point he may have been a "decent" reviewer but, as with a lot of internet shyt, it became #content and lost its meaning. The reviews are meant to spark reaction and engagement, and what better way to do that than to shyt on artists in personal terms. Especially if an artist is facing bad reviews. He always piles on in those cases. It's rare for him to surprise you with a good review of something that You're Supposed To Dislike.

Back to Mike...I have a lot of sympathy for artists who get miscast by the general population as The Savior of [insert genre], or The Revolutionary for maybe being more political than their peers, or whatever else. When you put an artist in a box by over analyzing their music or lyrics, you take the emphasis off ART. We've seen this a lot with Kendrick Lamar over the last decade. While I didn't really like his last album I applaud the fact that it's a giant fukk-you to those who put him on a pedestal. He straight up said he's not your savior. And if people listened to his music closer, beyond some tracks on TPAB, he's always made it clear he's a flawed soul from Compton fighting demons and trying to get better. He offers no solutions, nor should he as an artist. But you can only be The One for so long before people start asking you what's the plan. Pac mentioned that before, about being scared when he realized his fans wanted an action plan.

But Mike didn't rely on metaphors, personal experiences, or introspection like Kendrick. He straight up told you he was a revolutionary, he told you what he's doing, what you should be doing, and that it's time to Kill Your Masters and break the system. Going from that to raising people's rent because "well the property value is increasing" sure as fukk isn't revolutionary. Flip side Kendrick is giving money to his community, building shyt for the kids in Compton, etc. Same with Cole, doing it in NC. I'm not saying Killer Mike isn't, but you've lost the PR battle when your "giving back" is highlighted by begging black people not to loot your stores during an anti-police violence riot...and being a landlord. He did this to himself. Nobody would care if Future was a landlord!

Yo who remembers "Hiphopinfinity"
I feel like that was the birth of the Fantano type.

There was this one pic of the site staff that was damn near iconic. A bunch of awkward Anticon loving white kids, one of them holding his own wrist. I tried to find that picture just now lol

your stars are but dust on my shoes
I think the outsider criticism is oftentimes valid in rap journalism, but this seems inflammatory for the sake of cultivating outrage.

I mean, Mike's most visible music was made with El-P, and was largely consumed by listeners who look like Fantano.

Okay. Who the fukk is "fantano" and why should we care about his opinions? Because he got youtube followers? fukk him. I dont know why ya are letting nobodies who havent done anything in hip hop musically, behind the scenes, interviews or Let alone even know hip hop culture weight. Seriously does he know the elements of hip hop? Whats his education on hip hop? Like im tired of these nobody trying to act like they are hip hop when they are NOT.

I dont agree with killer mike and to me, hes alright musicwise but he has more to do with the culture than "fantano".

Interesting you mentioned hiphopinfinity, as pretty much Mike's former teammate el-p was a huge bullshytter on that very same site.
Fantano likes that crap: anticon, death grips, el-p, def jux. Some of the worst names in hip hop history out there.

It was one of the better hip-hop discussion boards at that time. The reviews were wonky though.

I'm not rolling with the Def Jux slander though . "The Cold Vein" is crap? I enjoy it way more than Killer Mike's music.

And if we want to talk about rappers experiencing true poverty the brother Vordul has really been through it.
