I think the stuff about it not being about race is more about him emphasizing the bigger picture that this verdict is representative of a system that protects its own at the cost of anyone else. Of course racism lays at the heart of this case, but the verdict as a whole is a spat in the face of anyone who believes in a system where justice can and will prevail, and that is an issue that doesn't just affect America internally but also externally (hence why most criticism from abroad follows that same narrative). Mike doesn't sugar coat the inherent racism in American society in his music, but I think here he wanted to band together all people as a whole and not just black people.

Agreed. Racism is the underlying issue, but the militarization of the police is the overarching one. The police will do whatever the fukk they want to whomever the fukk they want, and there will be no consequences for their actions.

really race is the smoke screen America power players use to keep the game going... people in power have used the lust of cheap labor as a way to make America a economic super power and then to keep lower and middle class white people from rebelling... they use blacks and Hispanics as the scape goat .. so they are never the ones being presecuted or asked the hard questions

why do you give a local sheriff agency a TANK? who says that's okay? who making those kind of weapons and then putting them out in American streets

there are private companies making billion keeping as many black people locked up as they can .. and so no body ask why they keep all the profits ..how a function of the state is now in the hands of private enterprise .... they hire all the out work white people in some local hick town ...

racism is the exhaust ... but its not the engine ... the system showed a lot of ugliness in ferguson and if your smart and can read the tea leaves a little bit ... it a sign of whats to come... the militarization iof the police force ... them having access to that kind of arsenal going to cause a lot of trouble everywhere and for everybody ...

Mike is right, it is a machine - a well-crafted, cold, effective machine.
"Race" is just one of the filters of the sensor on the front of this machine.
I feel saddened that many people don't realize this, but we are all on different paths in our journeys.
