And this is excluding the owners.

but when you look at it for the most part, players make more money than coaches, and coaches make more money than GM's.

However, the player reports to the coach, and the coach reports to the GM.

you have some exceptions to the rule with cats like poppovich and phil jackson. but for the most part, the average player in the NBA makes like $6M a year, which is more than most coaches. and I guaruntee most GM's don't make that much.

but can ya'll think of any other profession where your subordinates routinely make waaaayyyyy more money than the bosses?

It's not uncommon for some managers in certain professions to make less than their employees:

strippers
Bartenders
Servers
IT work (engineers vs their office manager)

Managers/Coaches literally manage. They aren't the talent and talent is where the money comes from.

Isn't this the case in all team sports?

the strip club owner makes more than the strippers.

restaurant manager makes more than the bartenders or servers.

some IT folks make more than managers. but yeah, those are specialized folks like engineers who have a particular knowledge base.

They're not subordinates, nor employees.... That's your first mistake

It depends, no?

A rookie/last man on bench vet making 500,000 a year is not making more.

Really, only the superstars make more than a coach.

coach makes like $3-$5M for most nba teams. the MLE is higher than $5M and the MLE represents the average NBA salary. thus most players make more than coaches. and most coaches (head coaches) make more than GM's.

unless they are sharing in the tips, they dont get close at most places. no one wants to be a manager and lose out on the tips out here. i know people who have bartended for over a decade and passed up numerous "promotions" because its a sizable pay cut

the coach dictates the players playing time and what they do on the field/court

the gm hires/fires coaches and responsible for player personal

That doesn't make them their boss... That makes them the manager of a product...... The GM puts the pieces of the product together....

They're more like commodities than employees....
